On September 22, 2025, IP Pipeline Technology successfully conducted an in-line inspection (ILI) on an 18-inch natural gas pipeline in the Middle East. The inspection was performed using a caliper tool, which was launched and completed on the same day. Despite encountering operational challenges during the process, the team effectively resolved all issues, demonstrating IP’s strong technical expertise and its ability to execute precise, efficient, and reliable pipeline assessments.

     The pipeline under inspection is an 18-inch diameter natural gas line with a total length of 21.1 km that has been in service for several decades. As an aging pipeline with original design features, it was important to  conduct a comprehensive ILI to evaluate structural integrity and guide future maintenance decisions. The caliper tool was launched on September 22, 2025. To ensure accurate tracking and distance correlation, above-ground markers (AGMs) were installed at key onshore points along the pipeline. The tool traveled the pipeline and was received on the same day, arriving in perfect operational condition with no mechanical damage or abnormal wear. Due to the pipeline’s advanced age and original design, the team faced operational challenges. Pig launch and retrieval were difficult, and venting operations posed additional risks. These challenges were effectively addressed by optimizing the pigging procedures and adjusting the venting configuration, ensuring smooth and safe tool movement throughout the pipeline.
